Physics is one of the most fundamental sciences, as most sciences and scientific research rely on the results and advances from physicist. This is because they have, year after year, innovated the world with new theorems, equations or projects that helped our society improving and moving on. I would really want to be part of a community which is dedicated to learning, analysing, and solving problems that will later be useful for others.

During my GCSE year, during the spring 2020 lockdown, I used my time to further my interest in physics by reading a book called ‘desayuno con particulas’, ‘breakfast with particles’, this book explained many quantum phenomena in a way which people who have not studied physics are capable of understanding. In early-mid GCSE’s I started learning about quantum physics, superposition, double slit experiment, Schrodinger’s cat, FLRW’s 9 universes and many other mind-blowing theories & experiments. After researching many quantum and astrophysics topics, I decided to inquire more into the world of physics, so I delved into magazines and articles where these theories were being proven through various formulae and research. Whilst I was studying so much about physics, I realised how much this made me expand my knowledge and problem-solving skills, these skills have supported me as a student in my daily life. Moreover, I developed my mathematical and logical skills by trying to decode and understand the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker metric equation, where the theorem comes from, and how all mathematical formulas were represented in real life. In my spare time, I also read Kip S. Thorne’s Black holes & time warps, New Scientist articles about quantum physics, cosmology, and classical experiments such as Galvani’s research. This has flourished my general knowledge in pure sciences, which has then had further positive impact in my academic studies.

When working at AVANÇ SL as warehouse management and delivery I gained an interest in the mathematical logistics of the business when organising all pendent ordersand how mathematics is used in companies. I have also enhanced my base in mathematics throughout tutoring younger students.

In terms of interest, I have played football from age 5, always on the same team as my friends. My longstanding role as second captain is challenging with the twin task of motivating others and staying one step ahead. It has taught me empathy as well as efficient team-working skills, which I know will be essential for studying physics, where success is all about collaboration. I built on teamworking skills and time management when completing the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at Silver level. Another passion is music: practising piano for last 10 years and bass for the last 5 years has helped me forge discipline. as it is an art where you need to practice playing correctly. You cannot always depend on motivation as it is very unstable emotion, so you shall establish a certain discipline, so you keep on going. This year I have started playing the guitar and drums to compose my own proper songs by myself. I think this is a good idea as it enhances my creativity and helps me concentrate in my studies to work in a more efficient way. From learning music, I think that I have lost the fear of trying new things, that in my opinion is something very important for such an innovative science as physics.

Everything I have done previously such as sports, music, extracurricular learning, and job experiences have always had something to relate to physics. In this degree, I am mainly looking forward to learning more about the world, the universe and how everything works so in a future I am capable to help this community with further discoveries.
